Feel free to ask any historical/background/world/galaxy related questions you have here, as well as discussing things going on in the quest with the aforementioned Adjunct/Human Hybrid as the main character. For now, I leave you with this bit of information.

SOLAR SIPHONS!

The main source of energy for the Empire. It's technology has been refined over the tens of thousands of years it's been in use, but the basic concept remains the same. Instead of trying to capture sunlight and produce energy using that, the Empire got the crazy idea to set up large "mining" stations above various stars, and proceed to literally rip plasma straight out of the thing. At first this was horribly inefficient, but that to got refined when someone got the brilliant idea to set up plasma catchers above worlds, and simply beam plasma to a world as needed. Eventually, solar siphons became the number one source of both energy and materials, as the raw plasma could easily be coaxed into forming into various minerals and materials, as long as you let it continue compressing itself long enough. Plasma, as such, has become the most common form of everything used within the empire. Bullets, for example, are simply small pieces of plasma injected into a rail gun like design that then launches it at a target. Clips now consist of little more than globes of raw plasma places into a tube.

What? But GRAVITY does that in a star. What's compressing the plasma once it's beamed to a planet?

>The Royal Families
The royal families are those families granted sanctions by Imperial Government, and who are descended in some way from the first Emperor. Given that now includes a couple thousand different families, some stronger than others, but that's just what happens in an intergalactic empire. Power among the families is generally considered equivalent to how many solar systems one controls, and more importantly, the star within that solar system. If a star has more material to harvest, then obviously that system is more desirable. Another important fact is that an Imperial Family can not have a space worthy army larger than a single Servant army, numbering roughly 10,000 souls. These armies are to be used only against each other in inter family conflicts. Attempting to use them to carve yourself a kingdom or directly influence the Servant Armies or an Imperial War is considered taboo, and a very quick death usually follows.

>Imperial History
Imperial history is very, very long. The most important bit is pretty simple though. Some tens of thousands of years ago, groups of settlers arrived in the central galaxy of the empire, also known as the Imperial Center, and planted themselves in various solar systems within said galaxy. As humans tend to do, they all eventually began expanding, running into each other, and starting wars of resources and settlements. Eventually, the First Emperor managed to gain the upper hand over all the others, since he had a group of geneticists use his own genetic data to produce the first Imperial Servants, who, while still crude and just made, proved more than capable of ripping apart the opposing armies. After another few thousand years, the first solar siphons were produced, along with the unification of the galaxy, made easier as genetics became more and more refined, making Imperial Servants better and better. Eventually, expans

Surya Quest is being played over here: >>/quest/407539

OK, first off. As many of you have already worked out, this here quest is based on Eclipse Phase. A super funky transhuman/fully colonized solar system RPG from people who worked on, and containing a lot of DNA from Shadowrun. I really like it myself, particularly since, weird and hard to get your head around the setting as it is, the rules are pretty darn playable, and official source material has you pretty decently covered for everything from freaky body horror to wacky lowbrow comedy. I also like it because I am DEAD BROKE, and the developers are understanding enough of that to not only sell it as actual books and PDFs from here:
http://eclipsephase.com/
They have no problem at all with cheap bastards just grabbing PDFs off the internet. To the degree that the devs themselves will toss full download links on their blogs and stuff:
http://robboyle.wordpress.com/eclipse-phase-pdfs/

So A- Wow, what cool guys! and B- You can go look up all kinds of crazy weird rules and setting stuff on your own. Feel free to ask here too if you're lazy though.

The other nice thing is, this being a crazy real-world future where it's hard to keep anything a secret, I don't especially have to worry about metagaming here. I am of the official stance that suggesters here are, in-quest, random bored people responding to the laggy posts of this poor bastard, so barring really stupid metagame stuff like "have your muse go search for archived posts from a site called tgchan.org and find a thread about your problem and see what people said back then" we're pretty good.

This setup also leads to this very weird possibility that seriously

That's one of those things you just kind of have to accept for the game's sake, really. For running a halfway coherent game, it's easiest to have actual flesh and blood people, followed by robots, followed by infomorphs. So... that's what people want to be, by universal fiat. Kinda like how we all just look the other way when it comes to D&D economics.

I feel Eclipse Phase in general veers a bit too much towards 'Everything works perfectly forever!'. That and the designers didn't pay enough attention to the implications of some of the things they stuck in.

Cyberpunk needs a bit of grit and the easiest way to do that is dial the tech back a notch.

Healing vats not being a cure-all. Emergent glitches in your fancy neogenetic critters. AI psychosis. Pproblems with the energy and materials supply chain in fabbing.

Fun stuff.
>>
No. 55072 ID: b9e291
>>55017

Depends on how long after the Exurgence conflict. There was a huge surge in Infomorphs at the time because everyone's bodies got kind of finely blended, except a few extrasolar colonies and the one on the moon that (somehow) didn't get dragged into it. Afterwards the proportion of Infomorphs went steadily down as equipment needed to be built and maintained outside the simulation, and people found existence sharing a limited set of computing resources rather tedious at best.

I think the awesome VR experience sort of thing would become more common as the proportion dwindled, so maybe 20% is the magic number where people are content to stay bodiless, but don't feel like they're locked in a data coffin all the time.

>>55048

Well the whole setting's founded on AI psychosis. I think it's flexible enough to accomodate grittier cyberpunk. Glitchy healing vats, running out of exotic elements (black hole farming might be needed there). It really depends how much you want to emphasize that. It could be anywhere from Star Trek level shenanigans to W40K scale horror.
>>
No. 55105 ID: 256d52
>>55072

On AI psychosis, it's more the fact that expert systems can suffer from mental stress and their minds tend to be more fragile than the players.

If your party is packing a lot of automation, better take a robopsychologist.

It's a point that the GM advice doesn't seem to dwell on much. On one hand, your muses all going nuts could be really annoying. But on the other, it could make a really fun story.

But yeah, I definitely trend towards the gritty side of the street in running Eclipse Phase.
>>
No. 55134 ID: b9e291
>>55105

That depends on the amount of redundancy. Anyway there are already rules in place for what stresses organic brains and cyberbrains can handle. In particular robo-brains are completely immune to the spooky psychic action at a distance, while goo-brains can't be appreciably hacked. You could... roll a robopsychologist character, if you want? It'd be more like a system admin though, eliminating viruses and reinstalling shit.

A sequel is not likely to star these characters since Slumber Party ended the last character arc Tezakia had with 'em, but they'll definitely be showing up from time to time unless there's this huge decision to skip WAY ahead to adult jiniki quest...

Boatface is meant to fill in the gaps in Fish updates, or otherwise be updated when I feel super productive. Fish is on a temporary Hiatus, so it'll be updating more quickly for now, mostly being slowed by me also working on a huge comic commission on the side.

Ok, judging by that infodump in the main quest, it seems like you folks could do with an actual discussion thread!

In relation to said infodump, I'd better clarify a few things. For instance, although the quest does take place in the Exalted setting, and you may pick up on one or two extra details or clues through familiarity with said setting, don't be too trusting in what you already know! For example, the possible magical powers available were mentioned. In Lunar Quest, a lot of the elements of the system have been simplified and folded into each other - for example, the array of Excellencies has been reduced to the Boost system. Similarly, Abilities and specialities have been folded together into Competencies, and Saulanna's method of improving herself bears no relation to the xp/training time mumbojumbo that Exalted uses. And it's not just the game system. Our heroine has no idea what year in the setting it is... so, neither do you. It's different, in summary! This quest should be just as fun for people who aren't familiar with Exalted as it is for people who are.

Keep an open mind, hey?

The real question is what the magical material cutlery does.
I mean, they were dicking around with piles of magic, it probably cooks the food while you cut while seasoning it to perfection and additionally makes a perfectly serviceable set of weapons in case you get jumped while eating AND lets you deflect social attacks by responding to the talking with a fork to the eye.

Hey guys, thought you all might want to know that I've been very busy trying to move back to the other side of the earth. It's quite an exhausting expedition, and I've so many things to do before I make my departure! I'll try and squeeze in a few updates when I can, but I'm doing a lot of running around and not knowing really what the ever-loving fuck I'm accomplishing lately, which is all really, really dumb.

Also Dark Souls and XCom eat up a lot of my freetime (granted, a lot less now) because I'm retarded and can't manage time. As an apology for my shitty work ethic, I offer you quest updates (which will be along shortly) and some junk I decided not to use(???) in Minion Quest, explained a bit.

The Water Construct was originally supposed to be a familiar to the cleric (due to some weird story stuff that may make sense later if I ever get the chance to explain) and dickbutt around with the currently unknown healer, but I decided that it looked fucking retarded and made another, fairly smaller one.

Armed Grenades worked something like sticky grenades in halo. You toss it at something, it grabs on for dear life until it's life comes to an end.

The Necrojester was supposed to be a thing in The Spare Parts room, but I decided that the design was really dumb and since have done absolutely nothing to recreate it. The primary purpose of The Necrojester is to be very, very distracting to the point of the protagonist's frustration.

Pelvis Thrauscht. I misspelled his name in the image, whoops. I really wanted to name him "Elvis Goatee Flyingbutts", but that would have been immensely dumb. In fact, the character was immensely dumb and probably not very fun to interact with at all, so he got the axe in the most literal of senses.

Grunt Design. Ah, yes I originally wanted to make Grunt into a no nonsense eyebrow heavy homicidal maniac of a r

Grunt was originally a midboss before I decided that it would be dumb and stupid and scrapped it entirely. You see, there are many different ways to tell this story, depending on the eyes of the body experiencing it.

Or uh, monitor, as this case may be.

I wrote a lot for the story and characters of Minion Quest. So much so, that I could tell the entire story through any of the NPCs, though their telling would be significantly more distorted than through the eyes (I mean monitor) of Grunt, and they probably wouldn't play along nearly as nicely. I grew to like Grunt after a while, and before I knew it, bam! The roles reversed. Don't worry though, you have the option not to hurt her (and better yet, a chance or two to recruit her!), should you so chose.

Though, every mage (full, complete, learned mage) has a familiar that relates to them in their field of magic, due to the world's (aha, this sounds like such a cop-out, but it's gonna sound better explained in the story itself later down the road, as opposed to right here) strange, magical properties. That one armed mage? Has a personal construct. The Necromancer? Many, maaaany summons, but only one construct. They're linked, so if the mage's mortal coil is cut, the construct will still exist, but there's a high chance it will go batshit insane. If the construct expires, the mage loses their ability to use magic. Usually forev

Nicole probably got our starter deck list choice options as well, five from Mercadian Masques and Invasion as well as 2010-2012. Possibly also the extra pick from 2010-2012.

Seeing as there's not been any real consensus, I'm shelving the pick until you get another card choice, or earlier if you all agree on something.

I also apologize again for leaving you all hanging as long as I did. Real life happens, unfortunately, and when it does I have to deal with it before dealing with imaginary magical girls. I hope you all understand.

Because I'm a vindictive bastard, I'll tell you: Nicole is still sitting at "level 1", so she hasn't got a bonus pick yet. Her starting sets are the 3 core sets, plus kamigawa and ravnica blocks (a somewhat modern analog to your options - a generally weak block that had a few good cards but little that was extraordinary, followed by a very well-received multicolor block that sold like crazy.)

>Seeing as there's not been any real consensus
There was fairly real consensus that by nuking the effectiveness of tutors, library manipulation, and card draw, a huge chunk of blue's cards are reduced to crap and more crap. There was general consensus that nuking has indeed occurred. Also that no other color can reasonably expect to beat an intelligent red player in this system. Just sayin'.

On what card to choose, I feel reasonably confident saying that either "hold the pick until we can choose from a set that isn't mostly crap" or Phantasmal Image were our unhappy mediums.

I don't know about consensus about the format being busted: I was doing most of the talking and not many people were saying much about it.

Because we couldn't decide who's discussion thread to put this in.

This is a short quest written by Typo, drawn by me. The image on the left shows the concept art of the main cast, as well as a size comparison. The slissa is very tiny.

Will include characters from hugs?

None of the Hugs characters are showing up directly... unless I decide to cameo Lyskir which i will not deny is a good possibility.

Fish is kind of the more serious quest Hugs was an unknowing testbed for. Slissa Quest itself will probably wait for Fish to complete before starting, since it's meant to be a high production major quest and I don't want to spend 8 hours a day having to draw both.

But I'm still leading up to SQ in ways that will be more obvious soon.

A lot of discussion's come up in the latest DiveQuest chapter so I wanted to clarify some things here without diverting the action of the thread itself.

This whole reorganizational thing, facilitated by the character of Ashedel, is not really a retcon of anything, just a reorganization.
I mentioned that I was so frustrated by and not at all enjoying Divequest that I was on the verge of just outright canceling it, but instead I made some big changes to its overall theme and drive, and one of my biggest changes is ripping out all the micromanagement. That wasn't fun and several people told me they weren't able to keep up with the quest solely because of the bloated inventories and mana management, and I was inclined to agree. Simple is better.
Other changes include the way puzzles are handled, the general focus and scale, social interactions between the characters, and so on.
Mostly, as you can probably tell by now, DiveQuest is supposed to be pretty over the top and tongue-in-cheek, and I wanted to change the flow of the quest to better fit that. As it was, the puzzles and pacing too closely matched RubyQuest, which didn't really work for Dive.

Major changes include more focus on the characters, more dynamic puzzles, more agency on the part of the players, more of an over-the-top aesthetic, a generally smaller scale in terms of Muschio's minions (so that each of them can have their own personality), less stuff that takes itself too seriously, and so on. You get the basic idea.
The goal here is to make it more accessible, fast-paced, entertaining, somewhat silly, and open for new players.

That doesn't mean this is going to turn into a Harem quest or that there's not going to be more profuse amounts of violence, nor that everything will be RANDOM AND WACKY, nor that there will be no serious moments interspersed.
Just that the previous incarnation of DiveQuest was t

Hello folks! Since this is the very first quest I've ever done, I'm looking for feedback and constructive criticisms. I want to make this quest a good one, and I welcome anything you can offer.

Also, feel free to discuss plot matters here too.
