Attempting to fine-tune the Slissa design.

First: Current design only I drew the horns bigger for some reason. Tezakia Quest eyes.

Second: Neck comes out further back, has lizard eyes

Third: More feral, leaning over more in an attempt to show they normally run on all fours. Majibeast/cutebold eyes

Fourth: Even more feral, with more spines similar to the male. Longer and thinner, similar to the original Slissa drawings

I'll likely be mixing and matching features as I go. I'm not sure yet if I want to learn towards pure cute, or a mix of cute and cool. If you guys have any thoughts let me know~

My thought is that sooner or later you're going to want to do some kind of close-up, so detail approximations like dot-eyes shouldn't be part of the race design; you need to know and tie-down what that part actually looks like so that you can draw it when needed, even if 99% of the time you make a stylistic approximation.

Indeed, if I had to show a detail shot, then it's no big deal. I'm just trying to find the cutest way to stylize it :3c

I've made Kliss's tail a bit longer, so now it can work as a better counter-balance, allowing her (and other slissas) to either stand upright (meerkat style), lean over a bit, or lean over a bunch (but they'd probably go on all fours at this point).

In short: I had my cake and ate it too.

I might go for a hybrid eye style (on the left). It's simple like TeQ's eyes, but shows more of a lizard shape. Eyes of course will change if I need to show an emotion or them looking in a specific direction because I suck.

Randomly felt like fiddling with pen settings and colors. I wasn't intending to make anything show-worthy (hence the lazy conversion from triangle-face to beak-face) but then suddenly I spent an hour coloring/shading.

It was very zen-like, which is super rare for me.

I also cirr'd up the shading a little bit so it's more shadey than normal.

Tezakian males are often judged by the vibrancy of their feathers. If they do get taken home, it's usually for a one-night stand. When they do get into relationships, they have to wonder if it's the "Real deal", or of they're being used as an on-demand orgasm.

Tezakian culture is to basically switch out mates until they find one they really connect with, but that can take several seasons to happen-- or may not happen at all!

(The hand-wavy justification for sekani letting amiel declare them a couple is both him being a pushover early on, and his culture of going "me? w-well yes!!" when a female finally chooses him)

That depends entirely on how you do it.

Here's a method for super easy cel shading that takes advantage of the magic of layers.

Step 1: lay down your inks and flats.

Step 2: create a new layer above the flats, set the mode to "multiply," and use a hard opaque brush to slap down a light grey. Shadows!

Step 3: create another new layer, set mode to "screen," and apply a DARK gray to highlight things. Alternately, use a (highlight-colored) brush and set the opacity to something low like 30%.

(last picture shows what it looks like with all layers set to "normal" mode)

I tried to consider the shading advice, but in the end I did the layers all wrong and had to do it all manually which lead to essentially coloring this 3 times and my hands kind of hurt!

There is apparently a meta theme of Sekani turning into things and loving amiel in space.

I tend not to draw Nevreans on principle, but I made an exception. This is the one in Mick's painting, modified to look better in my style (attempts to mimic mick's style were...worrying).

I almost think if I change it enough it could be an Original Character Do Not Steal.

I still don't quite know how the wing-arms work in that picture...
