Stone Soup time.. with a difference.

Rather that discuss how we all horribly died for the millionth time, I figured we could make use of the arena function.

There won't be tiles, but we can see who can kick who's ass. I can to multiple opponents on each side, including multiples of different monsters(some run in bands so I can specify ___ band), and I can battle uniques as well. I can also specify a spawn from a certain part of the dungeon like vault 7. That will spawn monsters appropriate for that area. I can't chose the specific monster that will spawn from that area.. but I can say how many. I also have to name for each side. This also means I can specify a unique to fight on one side.. then say do vault 7 for the opposing team.

Go wild.

When giving monster names, please give the full name. Especially on uniques. I can't just put Blork. I have to put Blork the Orc. The full name of what they are called in game.

I'll be doing an example run first. Three gnolls versus Sigmund. Make your bets now before scrolling down.

So, I've got a bit of a problem I totally brought down to myself.

The BBEG of the campaign I'm in is this one sorceress, a real asshole who burns down villages and tortures people for fun, and I've been taunting and mocking and messing up with her just for shits and giggles, because she's just so responsive and easy to anger. Now, obviously she'd love to catch me and stick me in an iron maiden somewhere, but since I've proved to be rather elusive, she has decided to go for the next best thing: find out where my hometown is and torch it to the ground.

On one hand, she has apparently infinite resources in her hands, with a massive army of many standard races, as well as beholders, one mad doctor and his zombie girlfriend, and a gigantic heavily armored and fanatical hellspawn or whatever. On the other hand, my hometown is actually a heavily armored fortress, and could probably withstand at least several weeks of assault; in addition, I have the advantage of being friends with one extremely powerful wizard who could easily wipe the BBEG off the map if he wasn't a pacifist. Also, the BBEG's sister is much nicer person and I'm in at least friendly relations with her. I myself am currently at almost level 6, a swashbuckler who developed an interest in magic and multiclassed to a wizard.

The hometown is literally on the other side of the world of my own current location, and mobilizing her troops over there would take the BBEG several months at the very least. As said, it would also take a few more weeks at least to actually penetrate its defenses. So I have time.

Can I somehow find a way to evade all consenquences of my own deeds, or should I just bend over and take it like a bitch?

>What's the main plot, anyway?

Ultrabitch is looking for mysterious jewelry hidden into all the corners of the world, behind monsters and traps and stuff. On surface, she works with the Wizbro, because he's the only one who can translate some ridiculously old runes on 'em, but behind the scenes he employs the party to get the jewels from under her nose and bring them for him instead for safekeeping.

Currently, however, the main plot's taken backside for political intrigue and very dangerous romance. Ultrabitch has a soft spot for her sister and is just looking for excuses to blow up my home.

I actually ended up dancing with her at one point. It was scary as shit.

No, just leave it.
If she does, she ruins the sister's wedding. (I'm assuming she actually likes the sister here.)
Wizbro is there to fix things should they need to be fixed.
If she does nothing, then she was in close enough proximity to do so and you had little to no defenses and she DIDN'T DO IT.
Either way you win- You irritate her immensely, or she pisses off the sister to the point of getting the sister to help against her and you might lose a level or something.

SETTING IDEAS

POST YOURS NOW
----
Sterbennung is a dead world.

Its surface is a blasted wasteland, scarred and over radiated by an uncaring and unmerciful sun. It never rained on Sterbennung; it poured, as if the planet’s very own discolored clouds hated it, and attempted to drown it whenever it could. Nothing lived on the surface of Sterbennung. Not even bacteria could survive on its cursed plateaus and rocky valleys. If the heat or the cosmic radiation didn’t kill you, the weather would. Rain would be the least of your worries when the weather came in to play.

But deep, deep down below, below the planet’s surface, far away from its blasphemous sun and murderous weather…

Life flourished. The unique minerals of the earth of the planet gave shelter to its contents, taking the punishing rain and trickling it in as rivers and aquifers and lakes, and it took the burning heat and biting cold and brought it down below, weakened to bearable levels as it came down. Forests of fungi grew large, and stalactites could be mined and transformed to building materials. Down below the dead surface of Sterbennung, a great labyrinth of catacombs and tunnels emerged. Some were made by the planet itself, perhaps pitying the foolish things that attempted to eak out a meager living within its depths.

And the rest were created by the Progenitors.

No one really knew who the Progenitors were. All the inhabitants knew about them was what was learned from the mysterious artifacts they left behind. The Progenitors were hailed as gods, of a sort. They had arrived on Sterbennung within the confines of the Great Metal Shell, the largest of all the artifacts ever found, and the alpha of all life on Sterbennung. The Progenitors had came to Sterbennung, and they had given it its name. They landed- or possible crashed- within it’s deep depths, and using sorcerorous sciences or magics cover the hole w

The setting is entirely composed of Manifest Zones like in eberron, but only for the four elemental planes, which don't exist. It's just that some areas are more fire-aspected than others, for example.
The terrain reflects this, with small animals that spit fire, have asbestos skin, and grant a bonus to fire spells as familiars, or they might not need to breathe, move through earth like a xorn, and grant a bonus to earth spells.
Genii are incredibly common, and act as a sort of travel agency for getting people between distant cities, seeing as the wilds aren't very hospitable with the fire-squirrels and whatnot.
They usually travel through another plane, one filled with ruins and undead monstrosities.
The setting is the four elemental planes fused together unevenly due to some divine cock-up or other. The dimension the genii use is the old Prime, after some kind of zombie apocalypse.

I got bored last night so I did some crappy little writefaggotry for Sterbennung. This should give some more info on how things go in Sterbennung.
----
They had traveled by the Light Lines, the welcoming railroad of light that lead from the Great Shell into the twisting catacombs of Sterbennung. They had known they had entered dangerous territory when the Light Lines ran out. The Light Lines meant safety and security, the guiding way that lead the children of the Progenitors from the wild untamed depths of the Dark to the shining light of civilization. To wallow in the everlasting guide lights of the Progenitors was to know probable peace. To leave them and enter into the Dark was probable death.

There were three that traveled, for it was dangerous to go out alone, even with the guidance of the Light Lines. The Light Lines may have meant protection from the worst of the creatures that dwelt in the Dark, but there were still some evils that traveled in the light. One was named Ravel, and he was of intensely pale skin and had black, bulbous eyes that penetrated the shroud of the Dark with ease. Ravel carried the Star-Thrower, a breach loaded rifle that fired a deadly ordinance. Another was Tey, and she cut them a path through any obstructing overgrown fungi or plantation, with blade and axe. She carried a machete, and when that proved ineffective, a double-handed axe paved the way. She was their guide, and she knew the dangers of the Dark well. The third was a younger girl by the name of Rexi, and she carried a small compact crs-pistol, powered by the energy stones sometimes found in rare stone deposits.

All firearms they held were ancient gifts of Progenitors, given unto their children so that they may defend themselves from what they must face to survive. The Progenitors knew the dangers of Sterbennung well, for they had created most of them themselves, by accident or design, no one knows.

The three had tr

MaidRPG is a pretty good game. And it's fairly easy to modify to suit different purposes. It's got a few quirks, but those can be easily fixed when you come across 'em.

It's pretty fun to just think up explanations for all the random crap you just rolled for your character, too.

Hey there /tg/, I need some help and was hoping you could provide it. I am starting a DnD campaign with some friends in a few days and I will be jumping in their game a bit late. They need a tank so I was planning on making a Paladin. I would really appreciate it if you could critique what I have thus far, and tell me what I should add/remove. Thanks a ton in advance.

The build thus far: Warforged/Polearm or Sword 'n Board. I was thinking polearm for the increased range to mark with but the shield would convey an additional AC bonus. At Will's: Holy Strike and Enfeebling Strike. Domain Power : Power of the Moon on Enfeebling strike. Lvl 1 Daily: Blazing Brand OR Majestic Halo. Lvl 2 Utility: Call of Challenge or Virtue. Lvl 3 Encounter: Hold Fast. I was thinking of Endurance and Intimidate for skills and Athletics or Perception for the others. Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated, especially with the weapon dilemma.

Well if you're going to be the party tank, then go with sword and board. I'd go with Majestic Halo and Call of Challenge for the two powers you're debating, because again, defender-focused build. If you end up needing more firepower, you can retrain those abilities later.

What I have found from DMing 4th edition games, is that reach on a weapon generally doesn't add up for much unless a large portion of the party is made up of the reach, as the enemies will tend to move into melee fairly quickly, making reach weapons superior for all of 1 round, then you wish you had the extra AC from the shield.

Hi, /tg/ I've been playing WFRP for first time recently. Most of us rolled somewhat combat orientated character (mercenry, toll keeper) while one guy rolled agitator which sadly doesn't fit well with fighty attitude of rest of party...

How do you solve such problems in lolrandum RPGs like WFRP?
>>
No. 1012 ID: 1afd58
Well, WFRP as I recall is a fairly lethal system.

The agitator, being less combat-ready than the others, will likely die on combat.

Problem solved.
>>
No. 1015 ID: 9155ad
Is he better in social situations? Get him to do some more social situations. Find his strengths, play a bit towards them, that way he serves a purpose outside of combat. I've played a shitload of non-combat-oriented characters in WFRP. Shit was so cash.

I wrote a long, well thought out reply once. The server shenanigans ate it.

Here's the gist of it:
1) You can make the agitator a fighter: either by taking BS, Flee! and a buying a crossbow or taking WS, Streetfighter and buying some armour.
He can later on continue to Zealot, who is a fighty class and can be upgraded to Judicial Champion, who is a fighty character supreme.
2) Make use of his talky abilities. Versatility never hurts, unless you are dungeon crawlan (= doing it wrong).

>How do you solve such problems in lolrandum RPGs like WFRP?

uhm, you CHOSE. what a radical concept, choosing.

set a theme for your story/campain and actually make characters that works with that theme n some way. let the players talk through their concepts and ideas with the GM and each other.

in teh end, shape the campain after the players and their characters, don't let yourself get tied down by what any book or "rule" says, experiment.

>How do you solve such problems in lolrandum RPGs like WFRP?

A) You don't have to roll. Rules are just suggestions, nothing more.
B) ROLEPLAY! Act. You're not your weapon, you are a person with dreams, opinions, personality and a full life with a history, act it out!

I'm a cleric in the group. I basically pull the party around, I'm the one who does the talking (oddly with a charisma penalty, the DM says it's represented by the fact that I'm a huge, overbearing half-orc) and generally Get Shit Done. Now, the City Council knows that one of the Noble Families is seeking to assassinate the Child King and his Sister. So we hatch a plan: Have one of US get hired, fail on purpose, and expose the villain.

At this point, the Dwarf Fighter steps up. With an 8 in both wis and int. We decide to humor him, and we plan the eventual excraction of his unconcious body from whatever shit he may land himself in like the last two players did.

He buys small bags, flour, cinnamon, and thunderstones. Then four shovels. Then he buys three blank spellbooks.

In these spellbooks, he writes the names of three of the leading men of the Noble Houses, painstakingly forging their signatures. (Natural 20 on forgery check) This completed, he garbs himself in peasent clothing, waits for a party at the suspect's house, then goes next door. Upon bluffing his way into their basement with his +1 CHA, he tunnels from one basement to the other, and successfully sneaks all the way into the bedroom of the nobleman, bombing two of the gaurds with cinnamon and flour, as well as deafening them.

When the nobleman goes to bed, the Dwarf leaps out of his wardrobe, introduces himself, and gets the job, negotiating almost all the pay up front. 2000 gold now, 3000 after the deed.

He then goes to our wizard, who disguises two dead bodies to look like the king and his sister.

Then the Dwarf does "What any stupid Dwarf would do" and hands them over... in front of the Council.

We still don't know what the fuck he's planning for the books.
