>"Ahem, Sir. I do not mean to be the third wheel, however, you should be getting busy."
"Oh fine."

I have three days until my next match. There's lots to do, it all depends on where I want to place priorities. I'll assume that to get anything done, I'll have to spend six hours on a single task to make it worthwhile. Per day, I can do three different things, one thing three times My choices include...

[Train vs Lance] Kip will train me against a variety of weapon. This is the easiest choice in the short term, since Kip can help, and it's just about the only thing I can do without having to attempt to leave the arena without getting captured as soon as I step off arena grounds. Each training session, I believe I can ask Kip how good of a chance I have. Right now, the chances are hovering between "Fighting the warlord again, except with both hands and feet tied behind my back" and "Winning Lily from Shup by asking nicely."

[Train vs Momo] Similar to training to Spike, except I may have things like learning how to make potions to detect illusions and invisibility. I don't want to pass off the knight so easily, but I don't think the knight is going to be nearly as hard as Momo. I'll have to do it on my own as well, since I don't think Zizi approves of me fighting a girl, and Momo obviously won't help there.

[Investigate Shup]It never seemed that there was a good chance to do this. It's still not ideal, but it's as good as ever, and I won't have to worry about Lily before snooping through Shup's things. It'll be harder, though, since he's sure to have gotten defense against invisibility at this point.

[Investigate King]Given he's, well, the the king, this may be the most dangerous of all. While Shup wants me dead by any means but himself, the king will most likely kill me outright if I get caught, here. On the other hand, Ted definitely wanted the King labeled as unfit to rule for sure, so if I can pull off some rewards from this option, I won't have to worry about Shup, Momo or Lance.

Oh gosh Kip why are you such a PERV to suggest that while you're in the room!

Train vs Lance twice today, and for the third a special request- stealth training. We NEED to discredit the false king, and to do that we'll either have to get some indirect evidence through Shup or investigate the false king directly. Stealth training will increase our chances by a great deal.

Has everyone been told about how Kip was ordered to assassinate you, and obviously hasn't?
>>
No. 346614 ID: a83de5
You want to stay on the ball so at least some training every day. Momo may be the harder opponent but she is also much more likely to let you get away with your life if you do lose.
Two [Train vs Lance] for the first day. Make sure to ask Kip afterward what he thinks about our chances for fighting Lance, and if he has a vague idea about our chances against Momo. Stealth training would be a good option if possible, otherwise we should spend the third period investigating Shup.

maybe they should keep it to themselves- people who know about the king's identity are likely to end up on an assassin's to-kill list.

Yes, Kip was found out as soon as he visited Shup, only to have me escaped instead of slain. Those dragon knights outside of my door are just either keeping Kip in here, or kill him if he comes out.
Momo came back, with an illusory Kiki, just to put it on Lily and sneak her back out so that Kip and I can train.

>"Alright, Sir. Since this is a knight you are fighting, it will do to simply fight me as though I were Lance. So, grab your sword, and attempt to attack me! Remember, I will defend myself this time."

I hate to say it but patience is probably best at this point with regard to the king. There are currently you, Momo, Lily, Kip and Kiki who know about this. The rule of fives says that's as big as a conspiracy can get. Plus you seem to have the false king's favor, at least enough where he thinks to use you against Lord Shup in some sort of turf battle. If you lose that pretty much everyone is going to be out to kill you, so not the best thing to be testing right now. Go with the plan of trying to survive the colosseum match, and faking your death with Momo's match, allowing Momo to win and you to escape with Lily. After that you just gotta hide out and try to spread word anonymously that it'd be really awesome if someone were to check to see if the king is legit or not and Lord Shup's dungeons are surely full of secrets to bust into.

Then again the rule of Kiki says you're already screwed (dammit Kiki where are you).

WHen fighting heavy armor, it is best to use weapons that deal heavy bashing damage, such as a mace, or that have force directed to a point, such as a warpick. Also notable is the extra weight makes it slightly more difficult to get back up when fallen.

Sessions 1 and 2: Train with Kip

I'm glad I'm not having to fight Kip in the tournament.

>"Well Sir, you've improved considerably! At this level, if you fought him four times, I would bet that you have a solid chance of once or twice. Let's run across what worked well..."

>346690
Fighting defensively worked well. Kip says that Lance tends to go full offensive as well, and that practicing defense is crucial. As usual, the eye socket is good, but can't be entirely relied on.

>>346704
I'm honestly beginning to wonder if Kip can be killed.

>>346714
>>346718
Oh yes, there was lots of pain. I managed to trip Kip a couple of times, and it's difficult, but it could be connected with an excellent attack!

>>346733
Kiki? I haven't seen her since I left my village. Zizi is the only sibling I have around. Also, I'll have to see if Momo isn't going to just kill me before letting me fake my death!

>>346741
The pick worked exceptionally! I'll be sure to carry one into combat. Kip says I should definitely bring a shield, as well. I've gotten quite strong, I think I can carry a decent deal of weaponry without getting significantly slowed.

Session 3: Sneaking
"So Lily is in your room, right? All alright?"
>"Yeah yeah, Momo snuck her out fine and into her own room. She's at least as safe in there as she was in yours. Now, you called us out here?"
"Yes, I want to learn how to sneak better, and you're pretty good at it."
>"Darn right. Alright bro, you want to learn how to sneak? I'll teach ya, with Momo's help. We're going to set a valuable amulet of great power on that pedestal, and Momo and I are going to patrol around, and you've got to catch where we are and sneak on by!"
"Wait a second, isn't it risky to actually set something valuable out in the open like this?"
>"Well duh, that's why it's just a rock with the word 'money' etched on it. But we're letting on that it's valuable, which is why we're going to beat the crap out of you if you try and take it from us!"

Day Over

"Well, I managed to get it once. It's.. probably a good idea that I learned to sneak before trying it for real!"

It seems that I have a tangible chance of beating Lance, but it's... unnerving. I'm sure I'd get absolutely wasted by Momo. Following the King or Shup still has its risks, of course, but it's much better now that I've gotten some practice on that matter.

I wonder where Kip went off to. In fact, Lily is still in Momo's room, I guess. I'm so tired, though, that I'll trust Zizi and Momo to take care of her. I really need sleep. What should I do, tomorrow?

Done and done. I put the corpses in some abandoned cell block, and put a blanket in there over them. So that it looks like they're sleeping. I'm already jealous. It's all I can do without, I don't know, putting them in my own room.

I'll leave a note for Kip in my room, speaking of that.

Alright. I think the magic on the armor is dispelled with their death.

>Write broken scimitar on the helmet.
Um... I didn't get the impression it was appropriate to etch things on your own armor. Also Kip says it regenerates over time, so if they see the armor damaged and not regenerating.. I'd better not.

So. Aside from a particular gash in the middle of the armor that I can hide with the otherwise pristine cloak after a washup, this armor works okay. I mean, it doesn't fit at all, and it's incredibly uncomfortable, but here I am.

I can go to Shup's if I feel like it. Or something else, maybe less crazy, maybe more!

well Kip won't have a problem knowing it's you, but anyone with suitable information about your aura will. If you get into a fight, win and win hard. Then you'll be in perfect disguise again.

If you see any vermin like rats or bugs on your way, kill them. It'd be miniscule, but enough might make it go away.

>Go to Shup's Estate

I've never seen that many glares walking down the street at me. Honestly, I thought I was going to die out there.

People notice the glow, they just pass it off as a magic bubble or something, given most have no idea what it actually is. Since getting a name in the tournament though, it's probably just a big 'I'm Fen' sign. Aside from the 'causes immenent death' anyway.

>"A dragon knight? We weren't expecting any, not since, well, are you here to report to Shup?"

That explains Kip's disappearance...
he's gone after the real king. The fake King has already made too many moves now, if he hasn't displaced the true king yet, he will soon. We have to get Ted out of there before fakeTed and Shup does.

One last question, simply ask her about who in noble or really any kind of power doesn't like either Shup or the current King for the past few years. Bonus if both. Then we need to bolt for the church. Our hideout is quite literally now the sanctuary under it, we'll use disguises or invisibility to get to and from the tourney. He probably won't attack you in front of everybody or the counsel, the uproar would be uncontrollable and completely unravel his kingdom. It'd have to be something a lot less public to spark less anger.

Well that, or we're just done completely with the tournament. We'll probably get Lily legally free and Shup's title and stuff if we put Ted back in power. Shup ain't going to have a life after that. No way, hose.

Me losing the tournament is fine, but if this is true, then the King might think I might actually win this, and wants me dead by cold assassination. It's the assassination inside the arena that's apparently bad for him... why he thinks me winning the tournament is such a big deal, though, I don't know.

"Why does Shup want me dead so bad? I'd do all this for Lily, but for him..."
>"He... he's really dedicated when he decides on a wife. He'd do anything, it's when he's at his most vulnerable and he doesn't care. I don't know if it's earnest love, or a blind obsession. But the way Shup spoke of the King... it seems like it's the King who wants you dead even more than Shup. Honestly, I'm not even sure Shup cares that much if you die, he just sees that as the simplest option to have a clear path to Lily.
"Okay, I've got to get moving. There's definitely odd things going on, but I'm going to try to get out of here without a fight. I don't plan on killing Shup, if you're worried about that. You haven't seen Lily, have you?"
>"Um, no, I'm sorry. But, I know how it is, having Shup intervene with a partner, so... I wish you and Lily the best. Goodbye for now, Fen."
"Goodbye, and thank you."

With that, I move onto Shup's office. It's risky, but it seems a straightforward choice if I'm to get anything else out of this visit.

And his office is surprisingly... modest? Bare? Aside from the size of it, or maybe because of it.

Is that painting scratched out, or just unfilled?

We should quietly open his desk and start looking through his papers. Be sure to make sure-

Wait.

That torch on the right. There's a shadow under it I wouldn't expect there to be one. Secret passageway? See if you can pull it or something.

If that painting is scratched out, that is a very bad sign. In the other pictures are the wives other than Lilly.

I don't like this. The painting and the shadow feel a little too obvious for somebody like Shup. Advance with extreme caution, it may be a trap.

The girl right next to the scratched out painting almost looks kinda like Momo, but I blame the skin color and the popped collar. I think one of the wives has a color similar to Momo's. Yeah, it's probably just the wives.

I know your sister isn't green like you or Zizi, so I'm guessing that it'd be wrong to assume that they're related. Would explain why Shup is one of Momo's particular enemies.

PS, gonna have to get your kill on soon.

That looks like an etched out painting, which is weird. I knew Shup was an old jerk, but I didn't take him as a creepy old jerk. Anyways, the one that looks like Momo is just Shup's first wife. Though, they really do look like they could be sisters... anyways. Really, who keeps an etched out painting on full display?

That shadow was a stone compartment. It wasn't shut all the way, maybe he left too hastily.
Inside is a box. It looks promising, but I can't open it right now, it has a lock.

>"Hey! Why are you going through Lord Shup's things, Dragon Knight?!"

"I'm under orders from the King, stand aside."
>"I'm afraid I can't let you do that. Even if you're under orders from the King, not even His Majesty has the authority to poke into Lord Shup's possessions without a warrant!"
"Well, I need your help, then. Please, hold that chair up, and don't set it down till I'm back."
>"Don't play me for a fool, Knight! You set that box down, and we can forget this ever happened, otherwise I'm calling the other guards!"

On the bright side, this means I'm onto something.

I guess we'll have to fight. See if you can take him out before he raises the alarm. Hmm...

Say "Okay fine, here" and approach him with the box out. Toss it to him once you get within a certain distance, then ice him while he's trying to catch it by reflex.

Then we retrieve the box and walk out LIKE A BAWS.

Who knows, it could be the noble who really owns this place.

THUMP

I have the God of War's aura that demands that I kill. I'm starting to feel the desperation to get out of here. And despite the latter, I'm still tired and cranky.

But you know what I'm not, above all else? Someone who kills needlessly. Also, all that training made me fast, I just found out. Very fast. He barely made a peep, and guards won't come rushing down because of a peep.

Still, there will probably be more guards to check on where this one went. Should I stick around and investigate more, or get out of here with the box right away?

Good, I wasn't sure if it was possible to get rid of him nonlethally.

Right now I'm most interested in that leftmost painting. Can you get a good look at it from down there? If not... Grab the guard's spear, stand on the chair, and knock down that leftmost painting. Or just climb up the wall if you're able. Be sure to catch it so it doesn't make noise. I really want to get a better look at it.

I am now the proud new owner of...

-One Painting (Ruined)
-Many pieces of paper inn his desk that are most likely worthless to me but whos absence greatly inconvenience Shup. I'm not complaining.
-Confidence that there are no other secret panels or anything of the sort in this room.

All joined, they join in an effort to stuff my cloak full of things.

Oh, and a lot of taps of guards out the door. That's important too. I went ahead and locked the door, but that won't last long.

>"Dragon Knight! Open the door, or we'll open it ourselves! Surrender, what you've got, and we'll let this slide!"

call out their fear, ask them if they really want to fuck with a dragon knight?
Make your voice a bit harsher so they can't attach it to you. If you go all batman, you'll either have them shit their pants in fear or die laughing

This.

Second story isn't too high by human standards, at least. As long as you don't biff the landing it should be like jumping off of a playground!
Except instead of sand you have grass.
Or rock.
